The Mohammad Haneef episode is the current chapter in the West’s war on Islam. It has been called a Muslim witch hunt by some - I wonder if they know what it is to be hunted as a Witch?
The Vatican has apologised to Jews for the horrors that Catholics facilitated during WWII, and is still thinking about apologising to Muslims for the Crusades. There has never been a hint of a Vatican apology to the witches and Gnostic heretics that the Roman Catholic church persecuted for most of the last thousand years.
What is the difference here? I think that it is about political power. Racist crap aside, let’s look at the reality - Israel controls access to a lot of Christian holy sites, and where is the oil? Some of it is in Catholic Venezuela, sure - but most of it is in Muslim hands. Political reality comes out of the barrel of a gun, sure, but also out of a barrel of oil.
There will be no Vatican apology for the Burning Times until we have political power. Which probably means never.
